Under et besøk hos moren sin finner Alex ut at mannen som forgrep seg på ham i barndommen fremdeles er i live. Dette kaster den allerede rotløse mannen ut i et følelsesmessig kaos. Alex, som har fortsatt å oppsøke eldre menn for sex, bestemmer seg for å ta hevn på sin nå forkrøplede overgriper. Han konfronterer den gamle ved å rekruttere en gutt til å «spille» seg selv som barn. Spørsmålet er om ønsket om hevn er i ferd med å gjøre Alex selv til en overgriper?

Regissør Travis Mathews klarer med denne psykologiske thrilleren å kombinere en spennende og erotisk handling med flott foto og en assosierende fortellerstil. Lydsporet er også verdt å nevne som utgjør en viktig del av filmen, og Mathews er tydelig inspirert av både John Cameron Mitchell (Rabbit Hole, Shortbus) og Gus van Sant (Elephant). Discreet ble, vel fortjent, nominert til Teddyprisen under årets internasjonale filmfestival i Berlin.

While visiting his mother Alex discovers that the man that sexually abused him as a child is still alive. This throws the rootless man into emotional turmoil. Alex, who has continued to meet older men for sex as an adult, decides to seek vengeance on his now crippled abuser. He confronts him by recruiting a young boy to «play» himself as a child. The question is if Alex’ wish for revenge is about to turn himself into an abuser?

Director Travis Mathews manages with this psychological thriller to combine an exciting and erotic plot with gorgeous cinematography and an associative narrative structure. The tremendous soundtrack is also worth mentioning for its role in telling the story, and it is safe to say that Mathews should be mentioned alongside auteurs like John Cameron Mitchell (Rabbit Hole, Shortbus) and Gus van Sant (Elephant).Discreet was, deservedly so, nominated for the Teddy Award at the Berlinale earlier this year
